Princeenergy backs Spalding RFC on their Voyage for promotion

November 5, 2013

Princeenergy director Mark Asplin is pleased to announce the new sponsorship deal with local rugby club Spalding RFC. Unbeaten in the League so far this season, Spalding RFC is a club with a mission. To get back on top after being relegated last year. The Lincolnshire club – deep in the fertile Fens – has set itself the challenge of regaining promotion after suffering to a hard fought demotion from Midlands 1 East last season. Mark Asplin explains how that Princeenergy have taken the decision to sponsor the team this season for both business and moral reasons.

“It might sound corny but local businesses like ours must support the local community and we do in many ways from sponsoring Peterborough United to supporting local business award ceremonies.

Princeenergy and Princebuild are very close to the local community so supporting Spalding RFC is something which we feel we should be doing. This is especially true as three of its players, Tom Duerden, Edward Duerden and Sam Cooke are all members of the team.

Spalding also has one of the biggest junior sections in the county and, again, we feel that as we drive green energy solutions like solar, biomass and heat pumps, we need to be supporting the people who will be recipients of our sustainable energy solutions in the future.” said Mr Asplin.
“When money is tight then every business decision needs reviewing and sometimes it is difficult to justify sponsoring organisations and clubs like Spalding. If we can make out a business case for it then it will get the support of my board. If not then I am afraid we have to walk away from the opportunity.
“Energy costs are spiralling and families are really struggling to meet the costs, often having to go without little luxuries in order to keep the lights on and the home warm.

“By having Princeenergy associated with Spalding RFC we confirm in people’s minds that our company is local, supporting the community and their sport and also able to offer some quite dramatic costs saving measures. We wish Spalding RFC all the best for the coming season and hope their unbeaten record so far continues on into the New Year. All the best boys.”
