Princeenergy were awarded the contract to replace the lighting system at Bayard Place, Peterborough in 2013.

The project required the replacement of the existing lighting system and fittings with a new energy saving intelligent lighting system and Zumtobel LED 60 watt modular lighting. This involved the replacement of no less than 925 individual fittings.

The project at the Council offices in Bayard Place, Peterborough, has reduced the council's energy bills, its carbon foot print and its maintenance costs whist also providing a better working environment for its employees.

The bespoke system was designed by Princeenergy to allow each individual light fitting to be independently IP addressed and controlled. Using an intelligent control system the various lighting components can be controlled in line with the amount of available daylight or the presence of employees. This ensures that the lux levels remain consistent regardless of the amount of natural daylight and results in significant reductions in actual energy consumption.

The benefits of the system are not just related to energy saving, a self-testing emergency lighting system which can be monitoring via the IT system to confirm that everything is working correctly saves on monthly inspections and testing. Due to this and the lifetime of the LED lights themselves it is estimated that maintenance costs will be reduced by up to 76%.

This type of system ensures pleasant visual conditions providing virtually glare-free lighting thanks to, what is known as, micro prismatic optic.

The system has even been able to facilitate a medical condition of one employee where the system has been programmed to reduce the light output over that particular desk.
