Wootton Upper School and Arts College is an academy operated by Wootton Academy Trust. It is one of the top performing schools in Bedfordshire with a reputation for high standards, in both the curriculum and the breadth of the extra-curricular opportunities.
To ensure the school was benefiting from the most efficient heating system and to remain up to date with current regulations it was identified that the schools plant room and related heating systems needed to be upgraded.
Princeenergy were successful in tendering for the works which included the upgrade of two plant rooms, replacement of all existing steel pipework with copper and the upgrade of fan convector units and radiators throughout.
The main plant room required the complete removal of the existing boilers and high level cold water storage cisterns. These were replaced with six new energy efficient Ideal boilers as well as two pressurisation units, new mains valves and an upgrade to the flue system to accommodate the new plant. Additionally in the main plant room two new hot water storage cisterns were installed along with a cold water storage tank and booster set which were installed in a newly created room within the main plant room.
In the second plant room three new ideal boilers were fitted along with a hot water storage cistern and associated pipework.
The Building Management System was updated throughout to adjust to the new plant and allow the school to achieve the highest energy efficiency possible.
The project was planned in for completion over the school holidays to ensure no interruption to staff or pupils and it was completed within the set time frames.
