James Manning, Director of Princeenergy

James Manning

Started working at Princeenergy: 1993

Starting Role: Heating Engineer

Current Role: Director of Princeenergy

Role Development:

I joined the company in 1993 as a commercial heating engineer undertaking the installation and maintenance of large mechanical plant for local authorities. This included the role of a commercial combustion engineer.

In 2006 this role evolved after many years of supporting the existing management team in estimating and supervising numerous projects and I was promoted to the position of Contracts/Mechanical Manager. This role saw me take the responsibility of developing the department and procuring new clients whilst overseeing a team of engineers.

A short time after this I was promoted to the role of Mechanical Services Manager. I was now overseeing the entire building services department. This gave me the opportunity to continue expanding the department into different work activities whilst procuring larger projects.

In 2011 I was further promoted to the position of Executive Manager, this involved taking on further responsibilities and I became more accountable for the financial profitability of the building services department. Within this new role I had set objectives to drive the department forward as a leading building services supplier and to diversify into larger commercial projects.

In 2015 I was promoted to the position of Associate Director and subsequently in 2016 after 23 years of service I was promoted to Director of Princeenergy. I am proud to be appointed in this role and to see that my hard work and dedication has been acknowledged by the board. I hope that my progression inspires others and shows that hard work is recognised by the company and rewarded accordingly.

A typical day:

My role as Director of Princeenergy is very diverse, it’s definitely a role where no two days are the same.

The Princeenergy team cover a broad range of services including; Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Renewables, Fire and Security and I oversee the managers and teams of engineers who deliver these services.

There are always a wide range of projects in progress and I work with the team to ensure they have the resources they need to deliver these projects to the very highest of standards.

A large part of my role includes the securing of new business through completing surveys, providing estimates and assisting the team in completing tenders. I also oversee the compliance and accreditation of NICEIC, Gas Safe, Water Safe, F Gas, Competent Scheme, MCS, BAFE and OFTEC.

I work closely with managers in all departments including those within the Princebuild team alongside whom we provide a full turnkey Building Services solution.

Your future with Princeenergy:

The Princeenergy department has come such a long way in my time with the company and I look forward to seeing that development continue allowing the team to take on larger commercial projects and be recognised for the excellent work they deliver. I am keen to assist my team in their own career development and in progressing to more senior roles within the company.

I would also like to see the department expand further into new sectors and become the go to company for delivering first class building services solutions.

Career highlights:

Over the time I have worked at Princeenergy there have been many highlights and I would definitely say that having the chance to work with a likeminded team who are a credit to the company as one of them.

Having the opportunity to work on some very prestigious contracts including the Cavendish III project is another highlight and I am very proud of the whole team for the way they have worked together to develop new ways of working and to deliver such high quality work.

On a personal level, becoming a director of a family run business and also obtaining my 25 year long service award are very special to me.

Luke Nightingale, Building Services Working Supervisor

Luke Nightingale

Started working at Princeenergy: 2012

Starting Role: Apprentice Plumber

Current Role: Building Services Working Supervisor

Role Development:

I joined Princeenergy straight after leaving school at the age of 16 in 2012. I began my career as an apprentice plumber on a 4 year NVQ Level 3 Gas course. This involved me working on various projects which could include anything from working in schools, hospitals and care homes to industrial warehouses. Initially projects included tasks like installing sanitary ware and installing domestic and commercial boilers in settings such as schools, hospitals, care homes and industrial warehouses.

Once I had gained more experience on site and achieved my level 2 plumbing I then moved on to my level 3 in heating and gas. This led to me working on larger projects such as plant room refurbishments for London clients and a large industrial warehouse project for Coca-Cola in Milton Keynes. Following on from this I completed my level 3 apprenticeship and became a qualified domestic gas engineer.

After finishing my apprenticeship I have spent the following years progressing my skills and gaining more knowledge on and off the tools. I have now also completed my commercial gas qualification and site management training which has enable me to progress to working supervisor.

A typical day:

My current role in Princeenergy can see me doing anything from installing plant rooms to managing projects, as well as spending time surveying sites and tendering for new jobs.

As a result of this varied work every day can be different, but I would typically start my day on checking calendars and emails to check for any updates or changes for myself or the team which may affect our planned day ahead. I would then attend site and make sure everything is running as planned. Then as long as everywhere is running as planned I would then be able to spend some time on the tools with the team.

Your future with Princeenergy:

Princeenergy has assisted me in every way possible with all my qualifications from the age of 16 to now being a building services working supervisor. I am ready to expand my skills and knowledge further as I am very driven to succeed in everything I do. I would like to keep working my way up, following in the footsteps of managers and directors who have been successful within the company and who have spent time guiding and mentoring myself and other team members to succeed.

Career highlights:

I am about to complete 10 years service at Princebuild, which I see as a great milestone. I have had an amazing career so far with so many highlights from working on large, prestigious projects to installing complex plant rooms. I am looking forward to what the future will hold for myself and Princeenergy and watching our team expand and develop.

I am proud to work for Princebuild and of what the company and our department has achieved and look forward to the future of the business.
