Within our industry health and safety is of principle importance, we work hard to ensure all of our staff, clients and the general public are in safe hands at all times.
We work just as hard to ensure we also take care of the environment within which we work and have been recognised for this by the Investors in the Environment.
Brian Sutherland BSc(Hons) CMIOSH RMaPS OSHCR joined our company in 2004 and brought with him a wealth of experience and qualifications in Health and Safety. Brian’s primary role is to manage and develop our Health and Safety infrastructure to meet with legislative requirements but this is just a small part of what his role entails. In addition Brian leads our Health and Safety committee made up of employees from across the company and ensures that our philosophy of making Health and Safety ‘everyone’s business’ is sustained. This responsibility is also disseminated through regular tool box talks delivered across the company. Being an accredited trainer for IOSH and managing our safety and environmental accreditations also keeps Brian busy in his daily activities, but somehow he still seems to find the time in his busy schedule to carry out his role on the East of England’s regional board of Directors for the Federation of Master Builders.
Brian Sutherland heads up our health and safety department, he is highly qualified and experienced in his field and takes a hands on approach to the role. He regularly delivers training to our own staff, including IOSH Managing Safely courses, ensuring all of our employees are up to date on all of the latest health and safety procedures.
As a result we have a highly trained work force, many of whom hold their own health and safety qualifications. In addition we currently hold the Gold Accreditation for CSCS (construction skills certification scheme) attainment with over 92% of our employees being CSCS accredited.
Health and safety is promoted to our employees via scheduled Toolbox Talks which are delivered to ourengineers on a regular basis by the Company Health and Safety Manager or another senior manager depending on the topic being covered.
Before work starts on any site, safe working practices are put into place and any site specific health and safety issues are identified and addressed. For reactive maintenance works the engineer will complete a risk assessment upon arrival on site.
Caring for the environment is an important factor in the work we do and we are always looking for ways to reduce the impact our business activities have on the environment. We are also passionate about renewable technologies, helping our customers to reduce their own carbon footprints by supplying quality energy saving solutions for homes and businesses.
We currently hold the following health and safety and environmental accreditations: OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety Management), CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme), Safecontractor Approved, ISO 14001 (Environmental Management).
